The Ezra Lemarpeh ambulances - Wholehearted Service |
|
|
|
"Ezra Lemarpeh" works in many ways to relieve the pain and suffering of the sick in Israel, with one common concept: The wish to offer support to the patient and his family, to alleviate their distress and try to create a pleasanter environment.
Among these services is our ambulance transportation system, which assists more than ten thousand sick people a year. Our fleet of ambulances, driven by competent and experienced para-medics, contribute to the vital feeling of comfort and special care and attention, which the patients so desperately need during the difficult time of coping with illness.
The ambulances are fully equipped to ensure the patient's safe transportation; in certain cases, when the condition of the patient requires it, a complete Intensive Care Kit is added.
This service, just like everything else that the organization offers to the general public, from all walks of life, is offered free of charge!
The service is available across the country.
The ambulances are used for different types of transportations:
|
| |
Taking patients to and from different treatments, including radiation and chemo-therapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitationary treatments, visits to specialists, transfers from one medical center to another when necessary. These trips are mostly planned and carried out by appointment at the organization's ambulance order center.
|
| |
Transfer of critically ill patients from one medical center to another, and whenever necessary to fly them abroad (or whenever a patient is returned from abroad, following an accident or illness, etc.). This catergory also includes the transfer of premature babies in incubators for medical treatment. In such cases, a medical team including a doctor, a nurse or a paramedic, accompanies the patient, andthe ambulance is equipped with a complete IC kit. These trips are not always pre-planned, which calls for immediate alignment and real-time response. In addition, our volunteers are alerted by MDA in cases of emergency (as part of their volunteer work in "Hatzolah"), when often they play a role in saving lives.

Patients need a lot of encouragement and support, which promotes their speedy recovery. For this reason, we also arrange for their transportation to family events, which their physical condition prevents them from joining. We even take them for short trips to take a breath of fresh air and replace the grim atmosphere which surrounds them. Their joyful expressions testify to the great benefit of these outings, which sometimes contribute more to their recovery than many medical treatments. Included in this category are also occasions which call for the accompaniment of ambulances, such as special events for sick children, within the framework of the Home Treatment for Children with Cancer.

As mentioned above, these are the main categories, with each of them containing numerous exciting stories that reflect the world of the sick, the world which the organization's drivers experience, becoming like one big family with the patients that they transport.
It might sound a little corny, but sometimes the patients are "sorry" when they recover, since they will lose the "merit" of being with the drivers. This sense of sweetness in the midst of bitter pain, remains with most of them as an ingrained memory, which they will probably never forget.
