Home care for children with cancer |
Our organization opened this unique service that enables children with cancer to remain at home, while continuing to receive the necessary medical treatment from the staff at the Pediatric Hemato-oncology Department in Tel Hashomer, and under their close supervision.
To activate this service, presently being offered to dozens of children simultaneously, a lot of medical equipment was purchased, in order to adapt the child's home to his special needs. Thus, he is able to remain at home, in his natural environment, a fact that doubtlessly contributes a lot to his recovery and to alleviating his great suffering. It also helps to maintain the integrity of the family unit, during the joint battle with the disease.
Naturally, a lot of didactic equipment was bought, too, such as games, cassettes, CD's and books, to keep the sick child occupied.
In addition, we organize fun days, trips across the country and abroad, parties and surprises for our precious children, aiming to make them forget, if only for a brief time, their difficult daily battle.
With this service, more than 1200 days of hospitalization are avoided annually, which also means considerable savings for the health administration. |
