The Therapeutic Approach
The Ezra Lemarpeh Rehabilitation Day Care Center provides secondary rehabilitation treatment, following completion of the initial rehabilitation that was given at the hospital/institute etc. This stage is either complementary (when needed), a stage of adjustment and "weaning" from rehabilitation at an institute, or preservative rehabilitation. This fact dictates the nature and blend of the center, the variety of activities and the manner of usage.
At this stage, the rehabilitation treatments are provided in the following fields: Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and guided occupation. Constant contact between the Center and the community/family, through a psychologist and a social worker, guidance for the family members by the multi-disciplinary staff. Additional therapies will be introduced at a later stage.
The rehabilitation treatment includes individual-physical )touch( treatments, as well as usage of a wide variety of devices and instruments, according to the different therapies and treatments. This equipment has been adapted to the nature of the above-mentioned types of patients, to their limitations and to the chosen methods of treatment. In addition, group therapy will be given to specific types of groups.
As part of the total concept of a Day Center (not being a therapeutic institute), warm meals and light refreshments will be served. Also, lectures will be given, and various classes, such as gym, arts and crafts, music, etc., will be available.
The Locality
The Rehabilitation Day Care Center is designated for 36 patients simultaneously, and takes up the second floor at the Ezra Lemarpeh Center in Bnei Brak )"Beith Zipporen"(. Admissions Committee
Every person who wishes to be accepted at the Rehabilitation Day Care Center must go through an admissions committee.
The Committee has determined certain criteria for accepting patients, as well as a scale of priorities. The committee's decision to accept a patient will be based on medical documents and additional papers that it will require. Having decided that the patient meets the criteria for rehabilitation treatment at the Center, the committee will invite him/her to a few trial treatments and further assessment by the professional staff. Then, the treatment plan will be decided, including starting regular visits the the Center, frequency of visits, the blend of treatments and estimated time that the patient will spend at the Center.
The Admissions Committee is comprised of a senior staff, including a rehabilitation doctor, a social worker, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist and a secretary.
The social worker coordinates the committee. The secretary is in charge of gathering the material for the committee.
This committee also serves as a discharge/end of treatment committee.
The completion of a patient's treatment is done according to a neat protocol, with the appropriate notice given to the patient himself and his family, well in advance, to enable them to make the necessary arrangements.
Equipment
The floor designated for the Day Care Center was renovated, rebuilt and adapted to its special needs. The Center is equipped with the best therapeutical equipment, according to the concepts mentioned above, for all the fields of treatment that were reviewed.
At the beginning of 2004, the second shift at the Rehabilitation Center was opened, increasing the number of patients to over 60. In addition, the center was enlarged with an additional 150 meters, on the third floor of Beith Zipporen.
